İsviçre'de büyük şok

EURO 2008'de Türk Milli takımının rakiplerinden olan İsviçre, Teknik Direktörleri Kobi Kuhn'un eşi Alice Kuhn'un ölüm haberi ile hüzne boğuldu.

İsviçre'nin Blick gazetesinin haberine göre; Epilepsi hastalığı sebebiyle tedavi gören Alice Kuhn bu gece hastanede hayata gözlerini yumdu.

Teknik Direktör Kobi Kuhn bu olay üzerine İsviçre idmanlarını bir günlüğüne iptal etti. İsviçre'nin Salı gününden sonra kaldığı yerden çalışmalarına devam etmesi bekleniyor.

Switzerland coach Jakob Kuhn insisted he remains 100 per cent committed to his UEFA EURO 2008™ duties despite seeing his wife hospitalised last night.

'Under control'
The coach's wife Alice was taken to hospital last night at about the same time the national team arrived at their hotel in Feusisberg. The Swiss Football Association and Kuhn have asked the media to respect her privacy but the coach said: "I was relieved to learn that her condition is under control now, that she is not in a life-threatening condition and that she has been given a very good prognosis." Kuhn also insisted that the situation will not impede with his work with the team. "I am here with all of my head, stomach and heart," he said. "I will be able to do my work and will not need any cover. It is in no way the case that I will not be 100 per cent available for my work with the team."

Young side
While Switzerland have two more years experience since their 2006 FIFA World Cup finals appearance, Kuhn was at pains to note the youth of his side. "I don't know if we are stronger than we were back then at the same stage – that's two years ago and now is now," he said. "All I know is that I am confident that we will start performing at the right time. We will see a compact team effort on Saturday in the tournament's opener." The Switzerland coach also pointed out that even though it "would not be wrong" to bill Portugal as Group A favourites, "it is a very tight group where anything can happen". Kuhn said his side would do their best "and then we will see if this is good enough".

Injury concerns
Midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta and central defender Patrick Müller are still in doubt for Saturday's game against the Czech Republic. Barnetta has not recovered from a left ankle injury sustained in training. "I have to be prepared to play without him, and we can play without him," said Kuhn. "He is not at 100 per cent right now but I am positive looking ahead to Saturday – there is still time for him." Müller has just returned to action after recovering from torn cruciate ligaments and looked a little shaky in Friday's 3-0 win against Liechtenstein. "He is not where he should be at the moment, but that goes for other players as well and luckily there is still time left," said Kuhn.

Finishing touches
The performance against Liechtenstein was not greeted with universal acclaim, but the coach insisted there was still time to make improvements. "We always have problems when we are forced to take command of a game, but we will now concentrate fully on the Czech Republic game and I believe that the hard work in these last days will improve our team-spirit and our solidarity," the 64-year-old, who will be replaced by Ottmar Hitzfeld after the finals, concluded.
